what are the advantages of ebooks versus real books?
From the readers’ point of view there can’t be many. Lower cost, ease of carrying maybe.
The downside is the size of the text, the eye strain, the cost of buying the reader to begin with and the lack of variety of stories available.
There’s also losing the pleasure you get from holding a real book and turning real pages. The smell of printing ink on paper, the feel of the shiny dust covers and the ability to put it on your bookshelf. Being able to open the book on the exact page you left it is also a plus.
Aesthetically I’d take a real book every time.
From a publisher’s point of view ebooks are cheaper and quicker to produce. More will be published this way in future but I feel it will be quite a while before printed books disappear altogether.
