electronic books companies
HELP! Years ago poetry.com published my works. Of course now I know it was all a scam, but I’m afraid that…?

I’m afraid that I’ll be cheated out of copyrights in the future if I ever pursue a legitimate publishing company (which I plan to do) to publish a novel or collection of poetry. I was only a kid when this phony company duped my parents into thinking that I’d won all these editor’s awards and so on, so they paid to have my poems published in about 3 anthologies and put on 1 or 2 CDs. (I can’t blame them; a lot of us fell prey to the company in the early days.) After that I ditched the site and, years later, I randomly came across this old piece of mail from them and remembered that I still had stuff floating around on their website! So I had my poems deleted by request, but now I have no idea what to do about my copyrights from what they already published in book and electronic format. I am still a minor, but I’m very concerned about my work. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

you have to look at what you gave them permission to do. i’m assuming that you allowed them to publish your works but didn’t sell the rights to them so you would still own them. since you’re a minor, you are not legally allowed to enter into any contract anyway so you’re probably safe & still own the rights to anything you wrote that they published.

as far as the work they have already published, you probably never received any royalties from them and probably never will. i don’t think you have to worry about reprints of those volumes. i think they make their money from constantly duping new poets and probably don’t reprint old volumes of work.

It is not just the timbre of Norah Jones’s voice that is mature beyond her 22 years. Her assured phrasing and precise time are more often found in older singers as well. She is instantly recognizable, blending shades of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone without sounding like anyone but herself. Any way you slice it, she is a singer to be reckoned with. Her readings of the Hank Williams classic “Cold …

The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album

The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album

At the time of its release, this was the watershed for soundtracks, selling a kazillion copies. It documents Whitney Houston’s character in the Kevin Costner movie, which required Houston to play only herself (although one hopes she wouldn’t end up with someone as smarmy as Costner). The album is as much a testament to the production of Babyface who, through the mid-1990s, actually was the mainstr…
