Google Editions To Release Read Everywhere E-books
By the time after-Christmas shoppers are looking for a good electronic book, Google Editions will reportedly be prepared for them. Google wanted to have its ebook retailing operations ready by summer 2010, however technical and legal barriers stood within the way, accounts the Wall Street Journal. But those roadblocks have been swept away. Not Google Editions seems prepared to challenge Amazon.com’s Kindle with a “read anywhere” e-book format.
Independent booksellers and Google Editions together
By the end of the first quarter, Google Editions is expected to release nationally after making alliances with many independent booksellers. It will appear within the United States of America before New Year’s Day too. The Google product management director Scott Dougal said that many publishers said they have been “exchanging files” with Google. According to publishing industry insiders, this can be a sign that Google Editions is very close to launch.
Lots more than e-books
About 65 percent of the electronic book sector is held by Amazon.com which is really very different from the e-book Google Editions will use. After purchasing a Google Editions e-book directly from the search giant or from an affiliated online bookseller, the e-book file is tied to the customer’s Google account. With a Web browser – whether it is be on a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone – customers can access their electronic books, cloud computing-style. While Amazon.com gives readers the flexibility to read their electronic books on any gadget that runs Kindle software, the books generally must be purchased from the Amazon.com store. There are outside sources that make free titles available.
The benefit for impartial booksellers is not known
Participation by impartial booksellers within the Google Editions platform will largely depend upon the compensation supplied, and the revenue percentage Google intends to offer isn’t currently known. A lot more than 200 United States of America independent booksellers will likely join this, according to the Wall Street Journal who spoke with the American Booksellers Association, while now there have not been any details released about who will be participating in Google Editions. If Google can get major booksellers like Borders and Barnes & Noble to feature Google Editions content, it could be in line to dominate the e-book field easily.
