Creating An Ebook Design That Sells
Have you ever seen an ebook design that just looks like a grade school kid made it? I’ve seen a bunch of them and I always wonder how many sales these people really expect to get. Even if it is a free book! Well I will show you how not to be that person. I will show you exactly how to make an awesome ebook cover that you will be proud to call your own. Read on.
If you haven’t seen those bad ebook design covers I’m sure you’ve seen the really nice ones. I will show you exactly how to make an ebook cover exactly like those. I realize it seems daunting and you might think that you have no graphic design ability whatsoever. Don’t worry. You don’t need any. All you need to be able to do is follow step by step instructions. If you can’t do that then I’m sorry I can’t help you.
The first thing you need to do is find an ebook design that you like; one that represents your ebook, but more importantly one that will attract your customers. You do this by first doing research on your competitors, especially the large players in your niche, and see what kind of ebook design they are using. Find a layout that you like and start to break it down piece by piece. What sort of graphics are they using? What sort of photos are they using? What colors are they using? Are the headlines catchy? These are the sort of things that you will replicate in your ebook design.
You’ll need to find appropriate photos and graphics for your ebook cover. You can search the internet for them or create them yourself. Now look at the example of what you are trying to replicate. Do they use the image as a background image or is it just part of the layout. How are they layered? Are they behind the text, through the text, or in front of the text? Setup your page size large enough to work with easily. You will reduce the size later for use on your website. Start layering you images. Choose background colors, accent colors, and text colors that attract the eye.
Once you have the pieces in place use effects to make them more appealing and professional looking. You can edit your layout with shadowing, glow, opaqueness etc. to get the look you like. Make sure the shape of your canvas matches your ebook template.
