Why is my Kindle dying when not in use?
I don’t keep my Kindle wireless on for long periods of time and it is always off before I put the Kindle away, but for some reason the battery continues draining and even dying. Why would this be? I last had it on about a week ago (I’ve been busy) and noticed it was surprisingly low on battery for how recently it had been charged, and now I just got it out and discovered the battery was so dead it had to charge for a few minutes to even turn on.
Why is this happening? I thought Kindles always entered a sleep mode after a few minutes of not being used, and I know it uses little/no energy to hold the e-ink particles in place.
If it isn’t automatically going to sleep, you’ll have to get help from Kindle customer service. Asleep, a fully charged battery should last more than a week with wireless off. Of course, if it’s the first generation Kindle, it’s several years old and that could explain it. Second generation with wireless off should still be holding some charge after sleeping for a week. Any generation though, if you plan to leave it unused for that long, you should probably turn it off instead of putting it to sleep. In the US, Kindle CS is 1-866-321-8851.
