Sony EReader Review – Sony Vs Kindle
Sony, the consumer electronics monster, was one of the leaders in the development of the modern-day ereader, launching its initial Sony eReader model back in 2006. But, Amazon has moved up in the rankings. The Amazon Kindle ebook reader, created in 2007, has been recognized as the industry leader…yet are things shifting?. Sony is now presenting brand new models that could keep up with the competition.

As opposed to the Kindle, Sony’s readers were not wireless and their owners couldn’t download publications or newspapers directly to the device, rather than via a laptop or computer. At this point, that issue has finally been resolved with the new Sony’s ereader Daily Edition.
The new sony ereader seriously is not a clone of the Kindle. It offers a distinctive design and style philosophy and is stronger in many areas, weaker in others. Generally, I liked using it, once I mastered the interface, which took quite a few days. I particularly liked the fact that it provides a larger screen into a comfortably small product, and largely makes use of touch navigation instead of all physical controls. For example, the Sony does have a small page switching control key, you can more easily turn pages by simply dragging your finger over the screen. It’s also more effective at navigating digital newspapers, something I’ve truly never found very satisfying on the Kindle.
The Daily Edition seems to have three main weaknesses compared to the Kindle. Firstly, it’s much more pricey. Secondly, it features fewer selection of copywrite ebooks, although this ought to be a brief situation. Third, the technology that makes the display touch sensitive is a bit dimmer, so the Daily Edition’s screen is darker in comparison with the Kindle’s. Most consider the Sony screen adequate, however it can be more difficult to read in reduced light.
The eReader Daily Edition is a slender device with a black metal body which contrasts dramatically with the wider, white plastic-type body of the Kindle. The new Sony eReader also promises additional battery lifetime with wireless turned off. It is sold with a cover, which is an added expense item on the Kindle, and can handle more book formats, as well as the cost-free digital ebooks supplied by your public library. Built-in memory space is precisely the same, but the Daily Edition’s can be expanded while the Kindle’s isn’t able to.
Just like the Amazon Kindle, the Sony eReader Daily Edition also makes it possible for you to drag songs, pics and some personal documents onto the device from your pc. I did this with no problems.
The eReader Daily Edition offers companion software for buying, reading and storing publications on both Computer systems and Macs.
Also, I determined the eReader Daily Edition required a more difficult learning process as compared with the Kindle. First, it takes awhile to get used to the touch display screen, partially because they require much more pressure than on a platform such as the iPhone. Secondly, using touch to bring up features and menus can be a mystery until you look at the manual. For instance, it took a long time to realize that it is possible to set a bookmark by double clicking on the top right corner.
Overall, despite its higher cost, the eReader Daily Edition is a big step for Sony and offers yet another good choice for shoppers.
