<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } –>
There is a lot of noise about Kindle3 Kindle DX. But which Kindle model is right for you? Amazon has recently released Kindle3 the 3rd generation of Kindles. You will have several model options when purchasing a Kindle. There is the base model Kindle, the Kindle 3G and the Kindle DX.
There are obvious similarities between all 3 models. For a better understanding of Kindle3 Kindle DX comparison read on.
One of the best features with Kindle3 Kindle DX is they have a no back lit screen that reduces eye strain, which is better for readability and can also be read in the sunlight. Kindle’s ‘e-ink electronic paper’ display makes the text come across as if you are reading it on real paper.
It is possible to store up to 3,500 books on each model.
With all 3 models you can read PDF files and listen to music as well while reading. The Kindle3 Kindle DX PDF reader has a dictionary lookup and support for password protected PDF files.
All Kindle models are very easy to use with little to no knowledge ramp up. There is no setup and nothing to install. Kindle3 Kindle DX all advertise books in 60 second download times. There is also Text-to-Speech, where Kindle can read English language content out loud.
It is also now possible to lend eligible Kindle books to other Kindle or Kindle app users for 14 days. This was not offered by Amazon until the beginning of 2011.
Where the base model Kindle, Kindle 3G and Kindle DX differ is by size, battery life and 3G capability.
The Kindle DX is larger than the base model Kindle and Kindle 3G. The base model Kindle and Kindle 3G both have a 6″ diagonal paper display while the larger Kindle DX has a 9.7″ diagonal paper display.
The base model Kindle has the longest battery life of 1 month with wireless off and 3 weeks with wireless on. The Kindle 3G lasts 1 month with wireless off and 10 days with wireless on. The Kindle DX battery life is 2-3 weeks wireless off and 7 days with wireless on.
The base model Kindle has Wi-Fi which requires access to your home Wi-Fi network or any Wi-Fi hotspot. The Kindle 3G and Kindle DX models have 3G coverage. The 3G coverage uses the same wireless signals that cell phones use and there are no wireless fees. The Kindle 3G and Kindle DX also have wireless coverage in over 100 countries.
As you would expect, there are different prices for each model. The base model Kindle is the cheapest while the Kindle DX is the most expensive, by quite a bit. So the decision you have to make is whether you need the large screen and are willing to pay for it and whether you want convenience of 3G or are ok with Wi-Fi access only.
