The Evolution Of The E-Reader

Ebook readers may have been slower-than-anticipated to catch on, but are gaining in popularity today.  They’re poised to become the home and office libraries of the future.  E-reader makers like Sony, Nook, Kindle and others hope that one day they’ll be as common as cell phones.

E-readers resemble a cross between a tablet-style PDA and a cell phone.  They’re less bulky than a small laptop computer and bigger than the average cellular, and were created for the sole purpose of storing digital books.

Depending on the particular device’s storage capability, an e-reader can store hundreds to thousands of books at once.  The ramifications of this are vast.  Users may be able to pare down their libraries and save space at home or work.  Travelling with an e-reader is also considerably less complicated than travelling with a stack of books.  Convenience is the e-reader’s strongest selling point with the public.

Sony released the first ebook reader in the year 2007.  The Kindle arrived on the scene shortly after, and quickly overtook the Sony e-reader in popularity.

There are several e-readers on the market today in addition to the Kindle and Sony devices, including the Nook ebook reader.  It is marketed by the US bookselling giant Barnes and Noble.  It was created to be a major competitor of the Kindle ebook reader.  A look at a Nook review or Nook vs. Kindle review to get an idea of the features and benefits of each version.

Some of today’s newer devices have capabilities besides book storage.  You can surf the Web with some models.  Others can download apps.  The e-readers of today, in fact, are a lot more like Smartphones, with the exception of being able to make phone calls.

While they may have been slow to catch on at first, ebook readers are here for good.  They will likely continue to evolve, perhaps leading one day to the complete elimination of printed books.

The Trifield ® Meter is a gaussmeter, electric field meter, radio field strength meter in a single until. When measuring electromagnetic fields (EMF’s), the primary concern is usually magnetic fields, which can be tricky to measure.
