Going Rogue by Sarah Palin
If there are two topics that inspire very heated debates and opinions they are religion and politics. Both are very volatile topics to bring up because just about everyone has a stance or theory on them. Politicians are reaching greater audiences through the publishing portal. When a politician publishes a book, especially if it is a “tell all” book about his or her life, people across the demographic board are going to take a look. Sarah Palin proved this with her book Going Rogue, which quickly shot to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers list.
When John McCain and Sarah Palin lost the presidential race to Barrack Obama and Joe Biden, most people thought Palin would go back to her job as being governor of Alaska and that would be the last anyone would hear of her. Yet Palin had higher sights in mind and soon resigned her position. Some thought this was a strategic move for her to start her own personal campaign for the 2012 Presidential elections. Others thought that scandal had forced her underground for a bit. Instead she hit the talk show circuit in preparation for this book release.
Going Rogue is definitely Sarah Palin’s soapbox. You also have to give her credit, or rather her publisher, for releasing the book in many different formats. That increases sales. Then factor in that she is such a controversial figure. Right away you have people buying the book just to see what she has to say. It does not matter that the book is strangely ambiguous when it comes to facts and statistics. People are reading it just to see what she has to say.
So what can you expect from Palin’s grand entrance into the literary world. Readers are very conflicted. Those who are fully supportive of Palin’s career and her political stances have found the book to be a refreshing account of her life and her rise through politics to become one of the world’s most watched characters. Others have found the book to be a joke and view it as her ineffective attempt to smear more mud on the Democratic Party.
Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing and Sarah Palin’s Going Rogue takes full advantage of this fact. It is hard to say exactly who this woman is or what she stands for in the long run. If you take the opportunity to read her book, even if you despise her political agenda and the woman herself, then you are at least reading her opinions and statements. From there you can make an informed decision whenever you discuss her with friends or family members.
