Self-publishing Has Been Good To Kindle Millionaire
After selling more than a million self-published ebooks, Amanda Hocking is known as the “Kindle Millionaire”. Hocking and several other authors are making more money with self-published ebooks than those they have written that are controlled by publishing houses. Utilizing the Kindle to create millions
The Kindle Millionaire is Amanda Hocking. She only started a year ago self-publishing her electronic books. She writes vampire romance novels that sell in the Amazon Kindle store. In the store, she is the best-selling independent writer. Her books cost between 99 cents and $2.99 while she sells about 100,000 e-books each month. Amazon takes a 30 percent cut for every sale. She has so several fresh novels coming out the high turnover is maintained. Probably the most popular titles from Hocking cost $2.99 each. “Trylle Trilogy” is one of these. The iBooks Store and Barnes and Noble Nook all have her book there too. However because she wears all the hats, Hocking has worked harder and longer than typical writers.
Good news about self-publishing
It can be more of an advantage to self-publish than to have a traditional publisher do it for some. A $500,000 deal was given to Thriller author Barry Eisler for his next novel which he turned down so he could self-publish, as a New York Times bestseller writer. In his blog, author Joe Konrath explains why self-publishing has the potential to pay off more. Konrath sells about 7,000 self-published electronic books per month on Kindle. There are about 833 sales per month of his top six titles. The revenue he makes is about $1,700 from them. A traditional publisher is in charge of his best selling e-book. Since 2004, he has sold 2,631 copies which earn him about $34 a month or $2,200 total. Konrath gets $1.17 out of every sale of the electronic book while Amazon sells it for $4.69. Selling for $2.99 and not going through a publisher, Konrath will make $2.04 off every sale. These are the Amazon numbers for self-publishing. Konrath ends up losing money with the traditional publisher because it’s costs too high and does not give back much.
Can the Kindle Millionaire find paper and ink success
The Kindle Millionaire got Hocking quite a bit of attention. Subsidiary of Mac million, St. Martin’s Press, then signed her. The next four romance series books she writes got her $2 million in advance. On her blog, Hocking explained her decision by saying she wanted to spend her time writing, not handling emails, formatting covers or hiring freelance editors. She believes a wider audience could be introduced to her writing. This is one thing she wants. It could be hard for Hocking to translate to the paper and ink idea after making money by being cheap and large, states Kiri Blakely at Forbes. It could be difficult match her 99 cent e-book success with real books that command up to $30 for hard cover first editions.
