What Are The Advantages Of Portable E-Readers?

Book lovers with tiny residences, rejoice! The E-readers are here, and at this point we are seeing enough diverse models available to support some degree of competition and invention. Obviously, no gadget is ever the right match for everyone, so what follows are some basic examinations of each challenger. Another must see is the Fujitsu S1500 Scansnap Scanner.

Amazon’s Kindle provides a good sized stockpile of books and other publications which are available through their wireless data network. This reader can keep about 1,500 e-books, which is fortunate, since it offers no expansion slot for extra memory. The Kindle could play MP3 and AAC audio and will interface with Windows and Mac programs.  A really good compliment is the Fujitsu S1500 Scansnap Scanner.

The battery is permanently part of the device and is not extractible, but the battery life is regarded as “good”, which may or may not be acceptable to you. Unfortunately, it’s not compatible with loaner e-books via your public library available in the ePub format.  Furthermore, although the wireless service works overseas, you would be slapped with added fees for accessing books there. Don’t forget to look at the Fujitsu S1500 Scansnap Scanner.

Barnes & Noble’s Nook has access to about a similar number of books and publications as the Kindle, and additionally it is ePub compatible and could permit you to lend certain e-books for as long as a fortnight. The Nook cannot allow you to download books in foreign countries, by the way. The Nook is similar to the Kindle with regards to system compatibility and has the additional advantage of an expansion slot for more memory, as well as a removable battery. The Nook does not work with word or text files, unfortunately, and the programming is still somewhat buggy.

The Sony Reader is the first of the of e-readers, and as a result has the advantage of having worked out the majority of of its problems. The Reader has furthermore been through several updates, therefore it has been able to respond to market forces along with progress in technology. This device could hold thousands of electronic books, and additional publications may be stuffed in with the inclusion of  an optional memory card. There isn’t a book or publication format which the Reader does not support, including ePub and PDF files. Curiously, one update the Reader has yet to offer is wireless capability, therefore all things must be transferred from a PC.

The iPad remains new enough to be a relative unknown, regardless of its super-hyped and fashionably late entrance to this particular gathering. Based on the majority of reviews, it works very well as a reader, working with all of the formats which could be operated with the rival e-readers, and provides several gaming applications too. Interestingly, Apple has decided to sell this gadget as a business tool, even though it is completely overwhelmed in this area by almost all netbooks and Apple’s own iPhone.
