Comparing Kindle DX and Kindle with Global Wireless
The most clear difference between these two digital reading gadgets available for purchase at this time is that just one works in the US while the other works in over 100 countries all around the globe. Obviously if you reside outside the USA (or if you are an American who frequently visits other countries) then that makes your decision (such as it is) quite clear; You must buy the Kindle with Global Wireless.
Besides that, the biggest difference is that of size. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Device is far bigger as far it’s display and how much memory it has. It is also far bigger as far as it’s price.
The DX is 9.7 inches and the Global Kindle is 6 inches. The larger screen is particularly helpful with newspaper subscriptions (it makes it more like reading a real paper.) On the flip side, the smaller size of the global version can make it easier to take around with you wherever you go.
There is also a big difference when it comes to memory. The larger Kindle can hold up to 3,500 books while the smaller version of this gadget can hold approximately 1,500 books, magazines, & newspapers. But really, who has such a ridiculous amount of books?! I have a difficult time believing that this extra space that the DX has is necessary for the vast majority of consumers.
Another difference is that the DX has an auto-rotating screen so that if you flip the gadget on it’s side the screen automatically adjusts itself to be read horizontally (and automatically adjusts itself to be read vertically when you flip it back.)
Both kindles can download from a selection of approximately 350,000 books, newspapers, and magazines which can all be bought for lower prices than their paperback alternatives. These books can all be downloaded within just 60 seconds from anywhere (they have G3 wireless so there’s no need to search for wi-fi spots.)
Both kindles have a built in “text to speech” program which can turn all of your books into audio books. Yes, your Kindle will read to you!
Neither of these reading devices have any monthly charges to worry about. The way the wireless service works is a lot like the service for a GPS.
Both devices have a basic web browswer that lets you surf the web from anywhere. This browser is designed for text based informational sites like Wikipedia and blogs. It’s not for pictures or videos.
