Why is Pride & Prejudice so popular these days?
Don’t get me wrong; it’s a fantastic book, a classic that everyone should read. But every time I’m online looking at books or on Amazon I always see it! Why is it to immensely popular all of the sudden, and why not other classics from the same era, like Tale of Two Cities, etc?
Also, usually when I see an e-reader advertised, Pride & Prejudice is very often the book on the screen; I’ve seen in on the Kindle, iPad, Sony, & Nook.
Any ideas on why this book is to popular these days?
It’s popular for many reasons.
First off, it’s a classic like you said. Secondly, Jane Austen was an amazing author. Thirdly, its themes are still very relevant to today’s society.
The novel talks about true love, and how sometimes it is necessary to go against what society says is “right” or “wrong.” Elizabeth and Darcy defy so much of society’s standards throughout the book—they both come from different families, have different social and economic rankings, etc. It also shows that first impressions are not always correct.
I think that’s still pretty relevant to today, don’t you think?
