If you are having issues with your PC where it keeps rebooting randomly, or if you see a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) containing an indecipherable error message before the reboot, then there is a mild cause for alarm with your current setup. The random rebooting could be a symptom of several different problems, ranging from a faulty power supply unit, hardware overheating, to a fatal hardware failure that requires prompt attention. For starters, there is a way you can stop the reboot from happening without warning by going into the ‘System’ (via Control Panel or by right-clicking on ‘My Computer’, then Properties’). From here go to the ‘Advanced’ tab, uncheck the ‘Automatic Restart’ option, OK to exit and then reboot your PC.
Now the next time you would’ve gotten an automatic reboot, you’ll be treated to the BSOD again, but this time you’ll be able to actually read what it says instead of the PC automatically rebooting itself. The best way to handle things from here on is to contact Microsoft technical support and tell them exactly what the BSOD message says. This way you’ll get perhaps the only people on the planet who know what the BSOD is talking about explain to you exactly what is wrong with your computer! If you want to skip waiting for Microsoft support to answer the phone (or if you use VOIP and are unable to do so) you could also try various programs that scan your RAM sticks for problems, as the BSOD/reboot issue will typically be a hardware issue stemming from memory.
If you are comfortable working in the BIOS settings of your computer (the screen you see before Windows boots up, usually access by pressing ‘DEL’ at start-up) you can try adjusting some of the settings that lowers the strain on your PC to help avoid overheating, overworking the RAM, or lowering any overclocking that you have in effect.
