Should I buy a Kindle 2 reader? See Details?
Hi
Amazon ebooks are not available in my country so the only way I can get them would be downloading them through a proxy onto my pc and then transferring them to the kindle. We also don’t have credit cards here so I can’t buy books. (Not that I would if I had one!) And we don’t have 3G or Edge here either. BUT I can still convert and transfer PDF files to the kindle, and that’s all I want from it. (There are thousands of pdf stories in the public domain right?) So, should I go ahead and buy a Kindle?? Is it worth it? I also have a few more questions:
1. Does Kindle 2 has wifi? (Not 3G or Edge)
2. Will I be able to convert pdf files using a computer program without any internet connection? Or do they need to be checked for DRM or something before I can transfer them?
If you’re not intending to buy any books you could still use the Kindle for PDFs (though I’d recommend converting like you plan). To purchase books you could register a gift card and register yourself as from another country, but you’d need an IP blocker and possibly need to register first with a credit card from the original country then deregister (if that makes sense?).
No, there is no wifi capability.
Yes, you’ll be able to convert your PDF files. I recommend using calibre. Or if you’re looking for classics manybooks.net will go ahead and give them to you in mobi which the kindle can read without any conversion at all. You won’t need to check them or anything, they just won’t work if they are DRMed.
