So you finally did it. You actually wrote a real book. You did everything that you were supposed to do in making sure that your manuscript is edited, and it’s perfectly formatted. It’s all ready to be read and well received by all of the total strangers who will hopefully be lined up with cash in hand at their nearest bookseller. Originally, you wanted to snag that six figure book deal with a big publisher and go on a huge multi-city book tour, but the stack of rejection letters overflowing from your drawer may have since convinced you that things won’t be happening that way. So what in the world is an aspiring author who still has big being-in-print dreams to do? Continue to read on how to pick yourself up, dust you manuscript off, and start all over again with a brand new publishing beginning.
1) Generally, publishing an E Book is cheaper than publishing any other way. Writing a full length book can be a long and arduous task, but in reality, the real work will have just begun (because if you enjoy writing, you really don’t think of it as being work). Now you have to decide on how you’re going to both publish and market your prized words. Fortunately, there are many alternatives for a new African American Author (or any other author for that matter) outside of going the traditional publishing route. You can go with a Print on Demand Company like Lightning Source or LuLu, which is substantially cheaper, or you can just save yourself lots of time and money, and go opt to create an E Book for Kindle. And here’s the cincher; once you’ve done the formatting, uploading your book is totally FREE.
2) Kindle E Books aren’t just for kindles. This is a huge misconception. Any customer of yours can totally upload your book onto their Kindle, iPad, Blackberry, iPod touch, Mac and PC, or Android based device. If you have any problems, there’s free software available directly from Amazon to do so.
3) There’s Way Less Competition. You read right. There’s much less competition with Kindle books; much less than with printed books. This potentially means that your book can BRIGHTLY shine and become a star.
4) Lower Prices Can Translate into Sales. You can afford to lower your E book price because you won’t have the overhead costs associated with traditional printing. Most titles on the Amazon List of Top 100 Bestsellers are prices under $9.99, with the most popular price being $0.00 of course.
5) Your Kindle E Book May Make You Famous. Remember all of those rejection letters? Well, if you’ve showed and proved by putting out your best work, IF you’ve promoted like crazy, and gained lots of dedicated customers, you’ll surely reap all of the rewards. The bottom line is that the Publishing Gods may just wind up coming to you. Then the choice will be yours to make. You may find that you like it just where you are in the E-publishing business.
