Do you have to pay in order to transfer a book from your computer to the kindle?
i’m a very keen reader and i’m thinking of buying a kindle. I’m not from the US so there are things I didn’t quite get from the reviews. I read in several languages, especially Romanian, and I’ve got a lot of Romanian translations on my PC, but reading like this is very tiring so i started thinking about buying a kindle, for the paper-sensation it gives you. But after having read some specifications, I didn’t quite understand. Do you have to pay in order to transfer a book from your computer to the kindle? What formats does it support?
The Kindle has a lot of issues with file format support. It supports .mobi, .prc, .azw and .pdf. What format are your existing files in? You can pay for file conversion. I’ve never done it, but I understand it involves mailing them the file, paying something like 25 cents, then they email the converted file to your Kindle. I use a free application called Calibre that does a lot of file conversions, but it can be a little wonky sometimes. I’d recommend you download Calibre and test it with some of your files. You can download the Kindle reader app from Amazon and see how the files look in it.
