Kindle 3g wifi very good to read novel for start to finish
Honestly, I prefer to read linear fiction from it than a book, because you cannot always be comfortable with a book. Hardcover sometimes a little heavy, and paperbacks are not always easily opened. The Kindle is incredibly light and thin. I can hold in one hand easily. The buttons to turn the page are perfectly situated. Page turns are not instantaneous, but they are probably faster than passing a physical page in a printed book. The contrast is better than others E-readers. There is zero eyestrain in bright light. My view is not the greatest and I love being able to increase the font size and read without glasses. I like being able to browse the Kindle store and play back samples before buying. The biggest drawback to the browser is the navigation bar left pointer with 5-way keypad.
The Kindle store could use more categories and sort options. Sometimes the wifi is not connected until the timeout. Rarely need the wifi, but it is annoying if you change a setting. Most settings do not require a connection, but it is a minor inconvenience. Most of your time will be spent reading, and of course his books are stored in the device and the connection is not necessary. Part of me that I had bought the 3G model, because the browser is pretty good, life with wireless 3G worth the extra money.
The contrast is fair to poor in low light. It is much easier to read a printed page into the shadows. In good light, contrast is on par with a pulp paperback. In low light, it feels almost like reading an old Palm Pilot. The screen is small enough that the frequency of page turns is pretty high. Even in full light, the light gray background less pleasant than the bottom shell of a printed page. You need to tell it to sync before switch off,if you expect total function lets you resume where you left off other appliances to function properly. Protection against copying prevents you from using the files on something other than the Kindle software or equipment. IPad is much better for magazines, reference materials and illustrated. Kindle is a world better in reading novels. IPAD is quite heavy, it is difficult to hold in your hand or carry around with you. Kindle is much more mobile and easier to maintain. IPAD has some great children books and magazines that take advantage of its multimedia functions. IPAD is unreadable in bright sunlight and glare in bright light is bad. Kindle is as good as a printed page in bright light. IPAD serves as a creative tool, a software tool, a tool for game, and a communication tool. Kindle is a novel machine. I do not regret buying one of them. An IPAD will not replace books, but a Kindle, if the book is text only.
I highly recommend this device for its new low price, if you are a frequent reader of novels. I love my Kindle. Just do not expect it to be more than what it is. Leave the magazines and stuff for Tablet PC.
