Is squaretrade warranty trustworthy? I want to get spill protection fo my macbook.?
It’s 300 bucks for 3 year spill and drop protection. Do you think squaretrade can be trusted or is it a scam.
I have a protection plan for my kindle, but Ive never had to call them yet. Did you get to deal with them anytime and was their support/replacement any good?
Overall.. its ok. The main thing I hate about Square Trade is that they have a maximum coverage clause, which limits how much they’ll actually cover. They will only cover a total of the whole warranty up to the max price of the computer… This might sound right, but its a bad deal.
Say you have a $1500 Macbook Pro. That means the total warranty will only cover up to that maximum. Say something dies on it and you get it fixed and it cost them $400… now your value is down to $1100… later on you spill something on it and it costs another $500, your value is down to $600. Later you accidentally drop it and kill it and it needs a total replacement machine. They’ll write you a check for $600 and tell you that is all you get, too bad it won’t cover it, and if you want to buy a similar new machine for $1500, your going to have to pay the rest of the $900 out of your own pocket.
I asked them about this policy and they said they have to do that to make sure the warranty prices are low… well yes its lower because its not full coverage for a time period since it has a maximum they will be willing to pay. Its understandable with their lower prices… but its something to be aware of… if the computer ends up having multiple problems, you might not be as “covered” as you think you are.
