Are eReaders good for reading Technical Manuals and Textbooks?
I am tired of lugging my bulky, heavy, and short-lived programming manuals around to my job so I’m thinking about buying a Kindle DX. My concern is that eReaders seem geared-up to just read novels (page-by-page reading) instead of flipping back and forth like you do in textbooks.
FYI…I’m thinking about purchasing the Kindle DX for this purpose.
Kindle doesn’t have great PDF support but the DX screen size would be ideal for your purpose. Sony makes a 7″ screen and its PDF support is far superior to Kindle. Considering the type of content you’ll have, I think you might be better off with a color display which means an LCD. NookColor has a 7″ screen and then there are any number of tablets out there, most of which will cost you more than Kindle DX. Barnes and Noble’s e-bookstore is linked to both Nooks but also Pandigital Novel. Borders is linked to a similar but higher quality LCD by Velocity Micro. You might want to check out some of the ones in stores before you order Kindle DX and also be aware that unlike Kindle 3, DX does not have wi-fi.
