Kindle: need help figuring out stuff..?
Hi people,
I’d like to but a Kindle and particularly the version £149 or similar with Wi Fi included.
Now this wi fi what includes and when it finishes, is it always available or it ends at some point?
And what kind of books are available? Are there also some textbooks? The person that would receive the present is a history teacher .
Is there a possibility to use a flash memory stick to transfer books to a kindle? or the other way around?
Is it also possible to listen to music on it?

If you buy the kindle with the wifi it would rely on you having your own wireless internet connection in order to get books on it however if you get the one with 3g you can connect over 3′s network which I think is free and will be for as long as you have the kindle so you can connect to the internet anywhere.
In terms of what books you can buy there are some text books available -I actually bought a couble of my uni text books on there- but whether there are as many as you would want to justify buying the kidle only you can decide. Why not go onto amazon and have a look at the variety available under the kindle section-

No I don’t believe you can use a memory stick to transfer book but you can transfer books straight from your computer.
Yes there is a MP3 player on the new kindles-it is fairly basic though I don’t think there is a way of selecting songs there is simply a skip forwards and backwards button.
there’s also a internet browser you can use of though it is fairly fiddley without a mouse
If it helps I bought my mum a kindle a couple of months ago and she absolutely loves it. She did need a bit of help with it initially as she isn’t great with technology so if he’s the same perhaps you have someone around that’s used to similar technology to show him the basics. Still even if you don’t its fairly simple I’m sure he’ll get the hang of it.
