Top Five Benefits of Buying an Amazon 3G Kindle
The Amazon 3G Kindle stands out as being the best handheld device for your money, partially because you’ll be spending a lot less money on it to begin with and getting a lot of value out of it for years to come. Unlike the Apple iPad, which gets replaced with another update every year, the Amazon Kindle requires fewer updates and two years later still functions the same way it did when you purchased it.
Let’s take a look at some of the other benefits you’ll enjoy about the Amazon 3G Kindle.
- Less computer hassle: the 3G Kindle does not require you to hook it up to the computer for a little authentication session. If you purchase an ebook reader partially because you did not like computers, then that defeats the whole purpose of getting a handheld device that is user-friendly. The Apple iPad, on the other hand, does require you to authenticate it, which is a big drawback in my mind. You don’t even get to use the iPad before Apple makes you authenticate it!
- No contracts: with the Apple iPad, you have to sign up for monthly fees to get access to wireless Internet on the data network. These fees range from $15-$25 per month, depending on how much data you want to pay for. But the Amazon 3G Kindle simply asks you to pay for the 3G enabled device, and you automatically get lifetime access to free wireless anywhere in the world.
- No glare screen display: if don’t like reading text on your laptop in direct sunlight, you’re definitely not going to like reading it on the Apple iPad any better. That’s where the 3G Kindle comes in quite handy. Not only has Amazon developed it such that it no longer emits a glare in sunlight of any kind, the display is now much more like a real page than the previous Kindle devices and the iPad.
- The Kindle is more portable: the 3G Kindle is a good 2 inches smaller than Apple iPad. Plus, it weighs less when you pick up, which makes it easier to hold onto for long periods of time when browsing the Internet or reading.
- Free Web browsing: which brings me to the next point — did I mention that the 3G Kindle lets you browse the Internet for free? Unless you’re downloading data from the 3G network, just basic Internet browsing is free on your device. So you can go anywhere in the world where there is a GSM signal, and you’ll be able to get Internet access wherever you are, even if you’re on vacation.
Of course, the 3G Kindle doesn’t come without its drawbacks. Naturally, you cannot play the applications and games that you can on an Apple iPad. But for the money you spend on the Kindle, you could easily buy an iPod touch or an iPhone and get the same value overall — if not more — than if you just bought the Apple iPad for several hundred dollars.
