Can the kindle surf the entire web, or only Wikipedia?

I see in the ads for kindle that you can also surf Wikipedia. I have also heard that Wikitravel can be accessed. I thought I had heard that though limited to certain web technologies, that you could actually go to any page on the internet as long as you had a cell signal.
Yes thank you both, I am quite interested in the new Kindle DX, and it has only made me even MORE interested in getting one. Now, if it could only play sudoku…or crosswords :) So it is basically, so I buy it now, or wait til the Kindle 3?

It can surf the entire web. The Kindle 2 comes with free wireless 3G network, and you can surf the web anywhere with the 3G network coverage. The only limitation is that the browser on Kindle 2 is heavily text-based, and it won’t be able to handle completed website with Javascript or Flash. So you can use it to browse Wikipedia, Google, or other text-heavy website, but not complicated ones.

Below are some good reviews if you want to learn more about the Kindle 2:

Hope it helps.

EDIT:
Kindle DX is good for native PDF support and a larger screen size. While for Kindle 2, it can handle PDF by converting it to Kindle format. It can handle most PDF well but it may not display complicated PDF in the correct format.

I’ll say if reading PDF is very important to you, and you like the larger screen size and is fine with the $130 extra cost, then get the Kindle DX. Personally, the 6″ screen of Kindle 2 is large enough for me and that keeps the device handy. To me Kindle DX looks a bit bulky and not as convenient to bring everywhere. And I don’t have complicated PDF to handle so the PDF conversion in Kindle 2 is fine for me already.

So my own choice is the Kindle 2. You can read the Kindle DX sales page and there is a very good and clear comparison of it with the Kindle 2, and it allows you to pre-order it. Hope these can help you make up your decision.
