The Top Two Ereaders: Kindle VS Sony
There’s a lot of hubbub about the Kindle ereader. It is sometimes erroneously referred to as the first dedicated ebook reader in the world. Actually, it was released shortly after its closest competitor released the Sony ereader in 2007.
Yet Kindle seems to have come out on top in this ever growing market. This may be due, at least in part, to better advertising strategies by its producers. Still, the Kindle has managed to hold its own with users, even aside from any fancy advertising.
If you read any Kindle review, you’ll likely notice some recurring highlights. The Kindle, which is Amazon’s venture into the ereader market, offers access to more new/current book titles than any of its closest competitors. For consumer’s whose main concern is the availability of books, it’s got enough to satisfy the most voracious of readers.
The original device has been updated several times since its release in 2007. To date the Kindle 3 is the company’s newest ereader. Besides its other improved features, it is also available in both a Wi-Fi only and a Wi-Fi/3G version.
The Kindle ebook reader has a number of clear advantages over the Sony ebook reader, its predecessor and nearest competitor. Besides access to more book titles, its offerings are also slightly less expensive than Sony’s (although Sony offers thousands of free downloadable public domain titles which Kindle does not.)
Both the Kindle and the Sony version have some exclusive features, including blog and newspaper feeds as well as apps. The newest Kindle (you can read a Kindle 3 review on the Web) has the capability to read books out loud. The voice is somewhat robotic, but this feature makes it the only viable option for blind consumers.
