How long does your Amazon Kindle 3 battery really last?

They claim it’ll last a month but I have to charge mine once a week and I don’t even use it that heavily. Also, if I look very closely at the battery symbol the instant I unplug the charger after the light has gone green it does not show it as being fully 100% charged, there’s a tiny bit of the battery symbol showing as having depleted, so it only ever looks about 95% full at best. Is this normal or does yours show up as being 100% full battery after you unplug the charger?

You are right: my battery indicator also displays a little less than 100%. I usually need to recharge my Kindle 3 once every 2 weeks or so. I keep my wireless turned on at all times though.

Turning off your Kindle completely (by holding the power switch for 8 seconds) really makes no difference compared to simply putting it in “screensaver” mode i.e. holding the switch for 2 seconds. Difference in energy consumption is negligible.

I would recommend you turn off wireless and if it only lasts for one week, then their may be a problem with the battery. With wireless off, it should last a good 3 weeks at least. Let us know what happens

Converting ePub files to mobi for kindle 3 E reader?

I currently have a samsung E60 and it displays my ePub files easily. My mums getting an e reader and would like to have my books. However she wants to get a kindle 3 and obviously I’ll have to convert the ePub to a mobi format. I was just wondering if anyones had any problems with this?
The files were orginally PDF then converted to ePub by the way any opinions on the kindle 3 and whether its worth it are welcome.

If the ePub files are not encumbered with Digital Rights Management, you should be able to use a program called Calibre to convert them to Kindle format. Since these used to be .pdf files, I doubt there is a problem.

I have a Kindle 3 and thoroughly like it. As you have noticed, it doesn’t play well with other eReaders, but as an eReader, and with Amazon’s system, it’s great.
